MEET THE BAKER

Kristin Hurst began performing puppet shows when she co-hatched the Egg Family Puppet Troupe with several theatre-tech colleagues in 1994, Philadelphia Pennsylvania .

Needing more heat to sizzle their eggs, the troupe relocated to Austin , Texas where they produced small social satires in bars, restaurants and small theatres for several years.   Then Kristin ran away with the circus and tucked the Egg Family name (and portrait) into her wallet where it safely rests.

Between her circus duties as 'backstage properties manager', Kristin worked with the children and some adults from the circus, creating shows and presenting them for the circus employees.

After running away from the circus in 2001, Kristin relocated to the blissful Swiss Alps, and began to work alone, creating spectacles for children and families and raising chickens. Over a few years Kristin’s style of shows changed from small hand puppets behind a wall to larger hand and rod puppets with the narrator in view.

Since 2005 Kristin plays an active role on stage as Hurstie, a clown who tells her own stories animated by a variety of puppet characters and underscored by original music.  The new company name, Hurstie and Companie, was born.

In 2009, Kristin created Carrot, Cleaning Lady Extraordinaire. Carrot has played in street and theatre festivals, and is a character geared towards older audiences.

Kristin's shows have been appreciated by audiences in England, Andorra, Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, USA, and Russia.

In 2011 Kristin relocated to Sarasota, Florida to fill her days with sunshine.  Hurstie and Companie continues to perform.
